What I Should Have Known

I didn't know what I should have known

And the thoughts I received deceived my own

My dreams were fancy and spoke of hope

With a wrought-iron future and bound with rope

Too meek to speak to the one with truth

Seeking stamps of approval to provide the proof

With needs comes wants and wants come bare

Without the need to want to be fair

In fact I claim to have won the race

And dare to spare the grin on my face

As I act and want and think and condone

If I didn't know what I should have known
